Collection of Christmas issues of “What’s New?”

Collection of Christmas issues of “What’s New?,” 1953-1959

North Chicago: Abbott Laboratories, 1953-1959
Seven annual issues
$600.00

Very Good/Annual Christmas issues of the Abbott Laboratories in-house publication. Each issue is full of remarkable contents, sometimes by notable contributors, alongside scientific articles and abstracts of research papers published during the year.

There is usually a special illustrated aritcle on some aspect of art or literature, such as “Illustrations from Rare Mediical Books in the Collection of the Armed Forces Medical Library” (illustrated with working superimposed plates) in the 1953 issue, or a historical survey of children’s toys in the 1956 issue. Truly a treasure-trove.

Seven issues of the annual Christmas number of the in-house publication of Abbott Laboratories. Housed in custom-made red-and-green cloth clamshell case with green paper label titled in gilt. 35 cm; 268 pages in all, plus covers. Enthusiastically illustrated throughout, including overlays, volvelles, and fine-art reproductions. Condition of magazines is generally very good, with some wear to some of the spines and edges.
The clamshell case is newly built specifically to house this collection (Inventory #: 6288)
